Testimonials - Dr. Glenn Kawesch

Dear Dr. Kawesch:
I have worn glasses for 43 years. I began wearing them when I was in third grade, because I could not pass my grade school vision test. In fact, in third grade I could not see anything that was on the chart that they asked me to read.

When I was a sophomore in high school, a miracle occurred. I was fitted with hard contact lenses, and all of the sudden the world looked different because my vision was clearer and more life-size, and when I looked in the mirror I certainly looked different. I felt very lucky to live in an era where contact lenses were possible. I never dreamed that I would go completely without them in my lifetime.

Approximately 10 years ago, I first started reading about a new eye surgery that could eradicate nearsightedness. After talking to several doctors, I was told that it would not work for me, because my correction was so great that all the operation would have done would have been to reduce the level of nearsightedness. I would still have had to wear glasses or contacts. It wasn't worth it.

Four years ago a friend of mine went to Canada and had PRK done with the Summit laser. She could not do it in the United States, because the laser had not yet been approved by the FDA. Her correction was not as much as mine, but it was substantial. Within a couple of days her vision was 20/30. 1 couldn't believe it! My correction was almost twice as much as hers, so in spite of her urging me to have the operation done, I still hesitated. I have to admit, also, that the thought of someone operating on my eyes made me very nervous.

When someone else I knew had it done here in San Diego, I was envious. Then again their correction was nowhere near as great as mine. Then two members of my staff had the eye operation done and were thrilled. I heard your name for the first time.

Since you performed the operation on members of my staff and they were very pleased -no the word is more properly thrilled and excited -- by the operation, I came to see you.

As you know, the rest is history, but still a miracle to me. I no longer wear glasses or contacts, and the three pairs of reading glasses that I had purchased this last year are happily no longer even in use! In fact, it has been so easy, that sometimes I have to remind myself that I don't wear glasses or contacts anymore. Often I think of how miraculous that is.

The time you took in explaining the procedure and answering my more than ample number of questions gave me the confidence to go ahead with the operation. The care I received afterwards, and the professionalism and friendliness of your staff made it all very easy.

I do not have to tell you that I would recommend you to other people, because as you know several of my friends and my sister have already been referred to you. All have already completed the operation with wonderful results. I hope that my children will be able to follow suit, and then spend the rest of their lives without glasses or contacts.

The decision to have an eye operation is a very serious one. We all consider our eyes, perhaps, our most precious sense. But now that it is done I could not be happier with the results! It is a miracle everyday that I don't have to put contacts in or glasses on. Thank you!
